Liana Liani: “The doctors said that without the prompt treatment, my father might not be with us.”

A 15-year-old Magen Dovid Adom (MDA) volunteer from Tel Aviv saved her father’s life after she realized he was suffering from a potentially deadly condition.
When Lana Liani returned home from a first aid training session with the MDA youth division, she noticed her father, Rafael, had difficulty speaking and was moving unusually before falling onto the couch.
Using her first aid training, she realized the situation was dire and believed her father could be suffering from a stroke.
Liani and her mother quickly called an ambulance.
After examining Rafael, the doctors concluded that he had not experienced a stroke; rather, he was suffering from a potentially fatal bacterial infection in his brain.
“The doctors said that without the prompt treatment, my father might not be with us,” Lana said. “I studied with MDA so I could assist people and save lives. I never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to save my own father’s life.”
Rafael expressed gratitude to his daughter. “After I woke up, they told me about Lana’s role and her keen instincts for caring for me. I am infinitely grateful to Lana.”
Magen David Adom handles hundreds of thousands of life-saving cases each year, utilizing technological devices that are among the most advanced in the world.
